Welcome to the North Cumbria Badminton Performance Centre Website. History. Sport England awarded Badminton England almost £2 million as part of a £3.5 million strategy to invest in clubs and coaches. The funding enabled Badminton England to establish a network of 50 performance Centre's across the country. Aims and Objectives. The aim is to create larger pool of talented players who can challenge for places on the world class start and potential programmes and ultimately win Olympic medals. The centre will also develop existing coaches and train new ones. Performance centre status means a close working relationship between the club and Badminton England to introduce new players to the game and to nurture potential champions of the future. It will play a major part in the National governing body’s ambition to become the best Badminton nation in the world by 2016. What does this mean for North Cumbria? A consortium of junior clubs led by Paul Harper were accepted and accredited with Performance Centre status after a lot of hard work and were awarded £10,000 every year until 2012 to help with talent identification and development of players on and off the court ultimately aiming to produce players capable of medal success.
